Bernice McKenzie was born May 7, 1929 in Harpersville, Alabama, to the late Harvey and Jennie McKinney.
Bernice accepted the Lord at an early age. She attended Coosa Valley Baptist Church while living in Vincent and later joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church after moving to Harpersville. She served as an Usher for almost thirty years while attending Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
Bernice united in Holy matrimony to the late Robert McKenzie on February 21, 1948. To this union six children were born. Her loving husband preceded her in death.
Bernice had one child, Karen Denise DeBose, that preceded her in death. She had three brothers, Aldrich, Walter, and James; and three sisters, Betty, Corrine, and Eloise that preceded her in death.
Bernice loved to travel, spending time with her children in California, Maryland and Tennessee. She loved to dress nicely and was often complimented on her dress. She also loved her Pastor the First Lady and the Mt. Olive Church family.
She leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Loucious (Delleane), Stephen (Lynn), and Clark (Gladys) all residing in Maryland; two daughters, Rosemary (Ken) and Phyllis (Demetrius) both residing in California; one son-in-law, James DeBose, reside in Tennessee, 14 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Jean; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
